Installation

There are two options for installation; from the Atlassian Marketplace or the Jira Apps Administration panel.

Project Creation

In general, with Agile Hive, you're able to keep using your already existing Jira projects.

However, there are some limitations in place as of now (April '23) regarding some project types and categories that are not yet compatible with Agile Hive Cloud:

  • Team-managed projects

  • Service Management projects

  • Product Discovery projects

Agile Hive comes with a predefined set of Jira Work Types, Jira Work Type Schemes, Jira Workflows, and other templates to enable administrators to quickly prepare a large number of existing projects for use with the app. Also, new projects can be created and assigned built-in templates for use with the corresponding layers from the SAFe® framework.

See our documentation on the Jira Administration Configuration to learn how to make projects ready for use with Agile Hive.

Agile Hive Administration Configuration

With the help of the Agile Hive Project Hierarchies, you can map the four SAFe® levels (Portfolio, Large Solution, ART, and Team) as well as the business units (Jira projects like an ART or team project) located therein.

Use the My Organization canvas to build and manage your Jira projects as a SAFe® structure.

The SAFe® levels are represented as horizontal layers. The business units are shown as colored nodes within the layers.

Go to Agile Hive Administration and under In-app configuration for Jira and Agile Hive administrators, open the Configure your SAFe® hierarchy option and click Open 'My organization' in Agile Hive.

Set Up Work Item Hierarchy

Work item hierarchy is available for all work items of projects added to the SAFe® hierarchy via My Organization. It can be accessed either via the work item’s detail view or it can be added by clicking the SAFe® Hierarchy button in the work item toolbar.

NOTE: The SAFe® Hierarchy cannot be accessed via an work item's detail view if the widget has not been added. When any user in your Jira instance adds the SAFe® Hierarchy widget to an work item, it will then be displayed for all users of the instance so long as no other user removes it.

The work hierarchy link unveils how an work item in a project on one of the upper SAFe® hierarchy layers is being broken down into smaller tasks. It always displays the current work item’s hierarchical links (parent work item + children) if available.

For detailed, step-by-step details on configuring your work hierarchies, visit our Work Hierarchy page.

Create PIs & Iterations

Configure your Program Increments (PIs) and Iterations in the project-specific PI & Iteration Management settings found in the Hive Manager.

PIs can either be managed inside of Solution Train or ART projects. Iterations are always managed by ARTs.

Use the interface to set the dates.

You can see that Agile Hive knows from My Organization which team-level projects will be affected. Select “+ Program Increment”.

Select Create. Now when you look at the Team board for any of the Teams that are part of the ART, you will see that they have the iterations inherited as sprints.
